Despite Turbulences: DAX Shows Stability Awaiting China Signal

Frank Sohlleder
October 16, 2025

The DAX remains tense and indecisive while continuing to await relief in the US-China tariff dispute. Yesterday, Wednesday, the leading index again tested the support zone that formed after Friday's sell-off. With a slight loss of 0.23 percent, the DAX closed at 24,181.37 points. Notably, the index is maintaining its stability despite the pressure. Hope for de-escalation is growing, as news reports suggest a possible meeting between the US President and the Chinese President. This would align with Trump's known negotiation tactic of publicly building pressure to achieve favorable deals behind the scenes. The big question remains whether China, which is increasingly operating from a position of strength, will engage with this tactic.

Rheinmetall Under Pressure – BASF Recovers

Among individual stocks, a divergent development was observed: BASF managed to recover after its recent weakness, securing the top spot for the day with a gain of 2.3 percent. This was followed by shares of Beiersdorf AG, which recorded a price increase of 1.9 percent. In contrast, Rheinmetall stock came under massive pressure, losing 5.1 percent. The temporary decline of the defense company thus continues for now.

24,000 Points in Focus: DAX Fights for its Strong Position

For today, Thursday, it is crucial that the DAX maintains its stability. Should the rumors of an imminent meeting between the US and Chinese presidents be confirmed, it could trigger a strong positive impulse and help the DAX rebuild its recent strong performance. Technically, the important 24,000-point mark is once again coming into focus: holding this threshold would further solidify the bullish scenario.
