DAX Resists Global Uncertainty: Geopolitics and US Markets in Focus

Frank Sohlleder
September 24, 2025

After a weak start to the week, the German stock index DAX showed resilience yesterday. It closed trading with a gain of 0.36 percent at 23,611.33 points. Despite the slight upward trend, the situation remains tense, especially in light of geopolitical developments and a potential market correction in the US.

Geopolitical Tensions: Is an Open Conflict Looming Between NATO and Russia?

Markets are observing the increasing tensions between NATO and Russia with great concern. Provocations are nothing new, but the current dynamic could quickly lead to an open military conflict. The potential economic consequences of such a scenario would be devastating. Experts warn of an inevitable stock market crash if the situation were to escalate. The determination of prominent political figures, such as Donald Trump, underscores the seriousness of the situation and shows how fragile the balance is.

Individual DAX Stocks: The Day's Winners and Losers

In addition to the overall market trend, there were also notable movements among individual stocks. The long-battered shares of Volkswagen and Porsche were able to recover slightly and were among the day's winners. However, at the top of the DAX was the Adidas stock, which delivered the best performance of the day with a gain of 3.5 percent. At the other end of the spectrum were the shares of Henkel, Commerzbank, and Deutsche Börse, which were the laggards.

Scenarios for the DAX: Will the German Stock Market Follow the Dow Jones into a Correction?

Despite the positive Tuesday, the overall condition of the DAX remains fragile. The gains after the close of trading were once again weak, suggesting a negative opening on Wednesday. While the American Dow Jones Industrial Index reached another record high, signs of a potential correction are gradually appearing there as well. Should the Dow Jones fall, it could drag the DAX down with it and put its all-time high even further out of reach. Investors are facing the question of whether the recent recovery is just a brief pause before the markets experience a larger correction.
