DAX Recovers Losses and Sets Course for Record High

It's a bit like the calm before the storm. The DAX was able to make up for its initial losses on Thursday, but there wasn't any real strong momentum in the movement. Impulses from a geopolitical or trade policy perspective are currently absent, so investors remain cautiously optimistic.

There is eager anticipation for a breakthrough in the peace efforts between Russia and Ukraine, but hope is rather thin, as the interests of the conflicting parties are too far apart. A positive sign would therefore be all the more surprising and would likely lead to significantly more movement. The development in the tariff dispute with the USA is also quiet. Positive surprises are absolutely conceivable but have so far failed to materialize.

The result on this Thursday was ultimately a gain of 0.72 percent with a final score of 23,695 points. Technically, after three consecutive days of consolidation, the DAX has moved into a promising position for today, Friday. The slight downward trend could be reversed, and the target for Friday is likely to be the all-time high from Monday, unless surprisingly escalating tendencies are announced from Istanbul or regarding the trade dispute from Washington.

Merck and BMW on Investors' Sell List

Among the individual stocks in the DAX, Thursday saw volatile situations due to reports, with Merck's share being the most affected, plummeting by over 6 percent and ending up at the bottom of the DAX. The decisive factor for this was the company's backtracking on its forecast based on tariff uncertainty. However, this also means that if certainty emerges in the tariff dispute, Merck could become a hot stock that can quickly turn its price losses back into gains. BMW's stock, also a loser of the day, closed down by over 5 percent, attributed to car owners' reluctance to switch to electric cars.

In short, the DAX is holding up bravely in thin air and is eyeing the next record high, should positive news accompany Friday.
