Setback for the DAX: Interest Rate Fears and Middle East Escalation Drag Leading Index Below 25,000 Points!

That’s how quickly the winds can change on the stock market: Just as investors were hoping for a sustained tech recovery, a toxic mix of restrictive monetary policy and geopolitical tensions literally pulled the rug out from under the DAX. The leading index slumped sharply by 1.5 percent, slipping well below the psychologically important 25,000-point mark to close at 24,763 points. Alongside a looming escalation in the Middle East—fueled by Houthi attacks on Saudi tankers and growing speculation about military expansion—the ECB also dampened the mood. Although key interest rates remained untouched, the conservative tone of President Christine Lagarde is stoking tangible fears of a rate hike in September, according to ING Chief Economist Carsten Brzeski.

Tech Sector Under Pressure: Infineon Stumbles – Fuchs and Deutsche Börse Shine!

The burgeoning interest rate and economic concerns hit the technology sector particularly hard. A disappointing outlook from competitor STMicroelectronics triggered a classic contagion effect within the semiconductor industry, dragging the Infineon share price down with it. Nevertheless, there were also genuine bright spots on this volatile trading day that defied the weak market breadth: Daimler-Truck, Fuchs, and Deutsche Börse demonstrated impressive strength. While Deutsche Börse managed to beat market earnings expectations, investors rewarded Fuchs with noticeable buying interest following a significant increase in its profit forecast.

However, the forecast for the adjusted operating profit was only minimally raised by one percentage point—a strong, yet slightly mixed picture at the very top. The crucial question is therefore: Are these fundamental figures enough to provide the market with fresh momentum? Today will show whether SAP shares can become the urgently needed pillar of support for the battered leading index.
