Will the DAX make it into the new year with over 20,000 points?
The Christmas break is over, and the DAX is entering the last trading days of the 2024 calendar year. Investors can look back on a successful trading year in the DAX and were able to celebrate another record year in the German stock index. Will the DAX still manage to crack the 20,000 points again this year and end the year above this ominous mark? Certainly, this would be a positive sign and could ensure that the German stock index's journey can continue to rise in the new year for the time being.
New elections promise excitement - also for the DAX
In the first few months in Germany, the early federal election in February will certainly be in the foreground. While the politicians of the still governing parties try to whitewash their government work, which has been deprived of confidence, it is stated in the background that the soaring popularity has nothing to do with the work of the government. Nevertheless, this horror scenario could occur economically, in which politicians who have been in power until now will be represented in the government again and little or nothing will change the course of the Federal Republic as a result. This, in turn, could also have a strong impact on DAX companies over time, so that German stock values, which are undervalued compared to US stocks, could possibly also suffer a slump.
Light and shadow in the individual stocks
A look back at the individual stocks shows that Siemens Energy shares, for example, have tripled over the year and, in view of the climatic challenges, appear almost cheap at a valuation of 51.12 euros, against the background of what could still be possible in this value. Even Rheinmetall shares in second place cannot keep up with these growth stocks. After all, the armor value also increased by a whopping 117 percent. On the other hand, as an investor, you almost have to be afraid of what will happen to Bayer stock. The group is still on a lurching course and lost almost half of its value in 2024 at 42.2 percent. If the Corporate Executive Board manages to restructure, the question still arises at Bayer. Where is the innovation that could give the stock wings again?
