DAX Breaks Key Level: Is a Year-End Trend Reversal Coming?

Pre-Christmas Gloom: DAX Slips Below 24,000 – Is the Holiday Rally Canceled?

The gray, pre-Christmas days continue on the German stock market, heavily dampening the mood of traders and investors. While everything should technically be set for the traditional Christmas rally, a dense fog of uncertainty hangs over the DAX this year. Market participants appear completely unsettled, seemingly groping in the dark for a sense of direction. Most painfully, the psychologically and technically crucial 24,000-point mark was undercut this week. Investors are now casting worried glances downward as the hoped-for year-end surge drifts further out of reach.

Tech Sector in a Downward Spiral: ECB and Fed Leave Investors in the Cold

What began last Friday with initial profit-taking has continued seamlessly into the current trading week. Investors are consistently pulling the ripcord, taking the gains they achieved during a strong 2025 off the table. A rally by the DAX bulls is becoming increasingly difficult as the necessary tailwind from Wall Street remains absent.

The primary culprits for the market's fading stamina are the weak signals coming from the tech sector. Results from heavyweights like Oracle and Broadcom disappointed across the board, fueling fears of a bursting AI bubble. Furthermore, the market is beginning to price in the realization that the Federal Reserve's recent tone was rather "hawkish"—conservative and restrictive. With the ECB also signaling no immediate interest rate cuts, the DAX lacks any monetary policy "fantasy" to drive prices higher. The consequence is a return to caution, which could cause the index to lose even more ground.

Technical Warning Signals: Is a Final Trend Reversal Looming?

From a technical perspective, warning signals are also mounting. The main issue is a glaring lack of upward momentum. The DAX simply fails to sustainably defend any highs it manages to reach. Every time the index fights its way upward, selling pressure immediately kicks back in.

This behavioral pattern suggests a profound shift in sentiment. If the DAX does not return above the 24,000 mark in the near future, significant trend breaks are imminent, which could unleash a dangerous downward dynamic. Investors must prepare for an uncomfortable end to the year.
